Troubleshooting: iPad Power & Charging Issues
Issue: The iPad screen is black and will not turn on.
Follow these steps to ensure the device is receiving power and has enough charge to boot up.
1. Verify the Power cable is Correct
Check every connection point from the device to the wall to ensure nothing has been bumped or unplugged:
Device Connection: Ensure the USB-C adapter or charging cable is firmly seated in the iPad’s charging port.
Adapter Connection: Verify that the power cable is securely plugged into the adapter/hub.
Wall Connection: Confirm the power cord is plugged into a live wall outlet or power strip. (Ensure the power strip is turned ON if applicable).
2. The 10-Minute Recovery Rule
If an iPad battery has been completely depleted, it will not turn on immediately when plugged in.
Action: Leave the iPad connected to the power source for at least 10 minutes.
Expectation: The iPad is designed to automatically power on once it reaches a safe battery threshold. You should see the Apple logo appear once it has enough power to boot.
3. Manual Restart
If the device has been charging for 10 minutes and still hasn't turned on:
Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
Press and hold the Top Power Button until the Apple logo appears.
Technical Support
If the screen remains black after 15 minutes of charging and a manual restart attempt, the battery or charging hardware may require service.
